Sean Divine Interview
Hosted by Tha Advocate

Sean Divine - we hear you are making some noise on the internet for your vivid production and versatile sound. We were brought to your attention by Tha Advocate and hearing your work we had to check you out!! So let’s get this cracking homie!!!

Where you reppin?

North Carolina stand up! I grew up in Winston-Salem and I’m now staying in the rapidly growing city of Charlotte.

How did the name come about??

I watch a good amount of movies and I take a lot of inspiration to the keyboards when I see something special. Back when I first started making beats, I watched that Clint Eastwood movie, “Mystic River”. One of the main characters was Sean Divine. It’s a crazy film and I chose the alias to rep my work in the production game. I like to consider myself a spiritual person when it comes to music, so it works.

When did you first become introduced to hip-hop?

I rocked Dr. Dre, Pac & Snoop whenever they came on the radio back in the mid 90’s. It was around the 6th grade when I started really getting into it. The first rap CD’s I ever bought were Jay-Z “Hard Knock Life Vol. 2” & DMX “It’s Dark & Hell Is Hot”. It didn’t hurt that I picked up two of the best rap albums of all time for starters. I was hooked.

How did you start producing?

I started out playing drums when I was a little kid. I use to record myself playing on a boombox. Then when I started listening to hip hop I knew I had to start making beats. I got this old Roland keyboard with a two track recorder. It had an 808 kit on it and I made beats for days on that thing.

Who'd win in a fight ll cool j or Flo Rida?? Had to throw in something different lol

LL, no question. I sent some tracks to an A&R for Flo Rida’s last album though and didn’t land it. So Flo if you see this, get at me for the next one! Haha.

What are your weapons of choice when producing a song?

Yamaha Motif, Cubase, Red Bull & a pair of drumsticks are the main ones.

What artists are you currently working with?

I’m working with a local emcee, Zack Fraley. He’s got serious hit potential and we’re putting together his EP and developing his sound. He’s done original tracks for heavyweight boxing fights and has a good buzz here in Charlotte. I’m also working with an Emcee from the Bronx- CAUSE. There’s no question he has the potential to be the next influential face of rap.

Who would you enjoy to work with?

It’s a long list but I’d have to go with Lupe Fiasco first. He’s not afraid to be different and he’s a brilliant writer. Next, I’d go with Ludacris because his voice and flow are so universal.

Who are your favorite producers of all time?

Dr. Dre, Timbaland & BT. Currently though I’m feeling Polow Da Don, Danja Handz & Maestro.

Why should any upcoming artist's holla at you before the next man?

I have that next sound you need and I’m not trying to bring the same old beats with the same ass sounds. I also have an ear for producing a track not just making the beat.

What would you say makes you different from the average producer?

Most of these producers have one sound or style and even when they try, they fall back to the same methods and it gets boring. I’m a producer that wants to make you sound the best you possibly can and give you a beat that can stir up all kinds of emotion.

Where can cats check you on the web?

For now you can check me out on Soundclick: http://www.soundclick.com/seandivine or Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/seandivine

My new official site is being built as we speak: http://www.seandivine.net.

Whats in ya Ipod right now?

Most Played- Nas, Joe Budden, Lupe Fiasco, Carter 3, Nada Surf & BT.

Whats your ultimate goal in hiphop?

I want to be an innovator and bring some new ideas to the table. Hip Hop for me is an outlet and I want to start hearing more positive messages and thought provoking topics. I like to have fun too though so I want to make pop records, just in a way that’s new and fresh. You have to keep reinventing yourself in this industry. The bottom line though is if I can make music that inspires people in whatever they’re doing, I’ve succeeded.

Please plug your sites and what ever you feel in necessary?

Shout out & respect to everyone who is chasing a dream.
