Hot Rod, Thanks for kicking it wit us whats new?
Shiiit, just been grindin’ makin’ these hits. Things are about to heat up in a second just watch.
Your story is a bit different then the other G Unit counter parts being that you actually had a 9 to 5 and was on your "corporate" grind before you got signed.Do you ever feel a bit different around other members of G Unit and artists on G Unit Records?
Yeah I do because I’m from Cali first off and everyone else is from NY. And on top of that, I’m not on that shoot’em up bang bang tip so I think niggas gotta adjust they ears to the type of music I make since I’m branded with tha G-Unit label.
How exactly did you get discovered by 50?
Long story short, I sent in a demo through a connect I met online named Taurus Scott. I owe that nigga a lot and when shit gets poppin, he’ll see what it is. But basically he got it in the hands of 50 and he was so impressed with the material and the swag that he offered me a spot on G-Unit.
When you first met 50 cent what was it like? Were you nervous?
Hell yea nigga! I been a fan of Fif for a while and I mean a big fan. It was like a dream come true that I got this opportunity to work with him basically overnight. But he’s so cool and down to earth that when we started talking I felt like I knew him for years. From how he’s portrayed on TV, I was thinking he was gonna walk in the room with a bulletproof vest, 2 machine guns, and a cigar in his mouth hahahaa… but yea he’s cool as a mu’fucka
Are you worried that with low record sales in the industry and a lagging economy that your album may go under the radar?
Nope…. I got some shit that niggas ain’t gona be ready for. I mean, different shit. Nothing like anything that’s goin’ on right now in the industry. I’m pushin’ the limits with these new records I’m doin’
How deep into the "FastLane" album are you?
How deep?..... Deep as the abyss… (shouts to Jeezy haha)… I totally revamped the album with new material because I’m gon into a different lane. Its been a while since I’ve been signed and I’ve had a chance to sit back and study the niggas who’s selling and the niggas who’s getting dropped sellin 20k records and shit. I got some things up my sleeves.
Any features? and what producers are you working with?
I got features and big producers. My favorite producer right now is up and coming and his name is Beau Dozier. He’s a beast and he’s guiding me through the lane that I’m in now. Wus poppin Beau I see you nigga!
With your single "I Like To Fuck" its a pretty bold statement ...are you concerned with any public back lash or limited exposure due to its title?
Hell naw. It’s gonna be the record of 2008. The clean version is called “I Like to Cut”. The record has gotten over 1.1 million spins on my myspace in 3 weeks. It’s a shock record and the world hasn’t even heard it yet. Watch all the records it’s about to break. Shouts to Tila Tequila showin love on the record
What do you think of the HipHop industry in general lately? Is it missing something or is it better then ever in your opinion?
It’s not better than ever but it’s cool. It’s going through a transitional period and this period is gonna work in my favor. Wow, niggas is gonna be mad at me when they see the numbers I’m about to do!
What is your favorite songs off of "Fast Lane" so far?
“I Like to Fuck” and “Bump my Shit”. Certified classics.
50 is known to beef and battle with more then a handful of emcees.Being you are signed to his label is it fair to say if 50 got a problem with someone then Hot Rod does?
Yes but not necessarily a problem, I show loyalty to my team. I wouldn’t collab with them niggas that 50 has serious problems with like a Ja or Joe, you know.. them niggas I can’t fuck wit’. But its not like if I see these niggas at a club or something, I’m gonna start shootin at ‘em.. It’s nothing like that.
Here at rapcapital.com we like to ask the artists some questions out of the norm to let the fans get better idea on who we are interviewing ...so here we go...
Before you were signed to G-Unit if Suge Knight would have expressed interest would you have signed to Deathrow Records?
Hahahaa awww shiiit well yea I woulda checked out what he was offering of course. But I wouldn’t have walked into Death Row offices alone though, I woulda been like 10 deep ‘cus that niggas crazy haha
Have you been following the election process ? and do you think Obama will become the first black president?
Nope… It would be cool for him to win but America is shady. They’ll find a way to have someone else win.
Since getting in the game what producer really pushed you to the limit and brought out Hot Rod's creative side?
Beau Dozier. The man is a damn genius.
If you had the power to ressurect 1 emcee that passed who would it be ?Pac,Pun,Big,Eazy E,Big L,Pimp C,Stack Bundles, etc.?
Pac… I hate the fact I was never able to meet him.
we had some fans write in to ask you some questions personally so here are a few...
Odd Todd wants to know-whats the Unit up to these days? any word on a release date on the next album? and r u gonna be on it or will it be the original like b4?
It’s gonna mostly be the original. 50 wants to re establish that old G-Unit sound so the album will be mostly Him, Banks, Buck, and Yay. I hope to get a slot on there, no guarantees though.
Daggerz wants to know-what's it like workin wit producer Majik?
Majik is a monster on the beats. He just needs to keep focused and go hard. He’s one of my favorites comin’ up in the game right now. You hear me Majik?! Getcha head in the game nigga!
Mr.Magic from Idaho wants to know if you will be making any deep music other then club singles?
Yea I have plenty of deep songs and I’m sure a couple will make the album. It’s just that there is a certain vibe I’m trying to give off with this project and having hella deep songs on it wouldn’t make sense to me and wouldn’t accomplish my goal.
Marlin from Miami wants to know whats the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in your life so far?
Dealin with fake niggas and bitches. The world becomes a crazier place once you sign with the Unit. But ya gotta love it.
back to the norm
Since you have been making music professionally is it a sense of relief that you don't have to "clock in a job" anymore ...or is it more stressful being you have to deal with public demand and have a huge amount of pressure on you?
Relief… I’ve been fired from every 9 to 5 since I was 16… Fuck workin for minimum wage, I’d rather kill myself, immediately….
What can we expect from Hot Rod in 2008?
Fast Lane, “I Like to Fuck” will be the #1 song in the country, my label 150 Ent., movie roles, all types of things…
In closing is there anything you want to shout or plug in? Thanks again for taking time to kick it with Rapcapital.com!!
